Terms of Use
Version 2.0 (draft of November 5, 2026, for review by counsel). Effective date: November 5, 2026.
1. What Tideline is
Tideline is a free self-help app for adults who want to stop gambling, cut back, or gamble more safely. It offers lessons, daily check-ins, tracking, tools for urges, and links to help. It works without an account.
2. What Tideline is not
- Not treatment. Tideline does not diagnose, treat or cure any condition. It does not replace a doctor, counselor or peer support group.
- Not an emergency service. If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 1-800-NEXT-STEP (1-800-639-8783; text NEXTSTEP to 53342) or call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911.
- Not financial or legal advice. For money or legal problems, talk to a qualified professional such as a nonprofit credit counselor or legal aid.
- No promise of results. People change at their own pace. We cannot promise any result.
- Not a gambling product. Tideline does not offer gambling, odds, tips, or rewards for gambling.
3. Who can use Tideline
- Adults only. Tideline is for adults, 18 and older.
- Your own decisions. By using Tideline, you confirm that you are 18 or older and that you make your own decisions about your care.
- Anywhere in the United States. The local help phone numbers and programs in the app are for Arizona. The lessons, check-ins and tools work anywhere. The helpline buttons and 988 work across the country.
- We may close an account that we learn does not meet these conditions. If Tideline is not right for you, we are glad you reached out. You can still call 1-800-NEXT-STEP or 988 for help that fits your situation.
4. It is free
We do not charge you anything, ever, for Tideline. There are no subscriptions, purchases, tips or paid upgrades. We will never ask for a card number. If anyone asks you to pay for Tideline, do not pay and tell support.
5. Your account (optional)
- You do not need an account to use Tideline. An account adds messages from the program, an inbox, and the choice to share check-in numbers.
- To make an account you give a username, an email address and a password. Your county or ZIP code and your age range are optional. Give accurate information.
- Choose a username that is not offensive and does not name another person.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell support if you think someone else has used it.
- One person, one account.
- You can delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy).
6. Your information
How we handle your information is in the Privacy Policy. In short: your journal stays on your phone; usage counts are off until you turn them on; we do not sell or share your information.
What you write is yours. We do not claim any ownership of your journal, check-ins or notes. If you choose to sync check-in numbers to an account, you give us permission only to store and process them so we can run the service for you.
7. Using Tideline
Please do:
- Use Tideline for your own recovery or to learn about problem gambling.
- Treat support staff with respect.
Please do not:
- Break the law or try to harm the service, other people, or our systems.
- Try to get into accounts, data or systems that are not yours, or test our security without written permission.
- Copy, resell or republish the app or its lessons without our written permission.
- Use Tideline to promote gambling or any product, or to collect information about other users.
- Pretend to be someone else.
In this version, the Community area shows posts written by Tideline Guides. Members cannot post. If posting is turned on in a later version, the Community Guidelines will apply.
8. Content and sources
The lessons and tools are written by Future Vanguard from published research, and the lessons list their sources. They are general information, not advice for your personal situation. The stories in the app are made-up composites, and the app says so. We update the content from time to time. Programs, phone numbers and websites can change. Check with the organization before you rely on it.
9. Links to other organizations
The resources pages link to local, state and national organizations. A link is a convenience and is not an endorsement. We do not control those organizations or their websites. Their services and privacy practices are their own.
10. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep Tideline running. Lessons, the toolkit, check-ins and your journal work on your phone without a connection. The online parts of the service (sign-in, messages, check-in sharing, content updates) can be unavailable at times, and we do not promise they will always be available. When we plan downtime, we post a notice in the app ahead of time. We may update, change or stop features. If we stop the service, we will tell you in advance and give you a chance to export your data.
11. Apple and Google
If you got Tideline from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the store's own license terms also apply. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for Tideline, its content, or support for it.
12. Disclaimers
Tideline is provided "as is" and "as available", to the extent the law allows. We do not promise that the app will be free of errors or that it will fit your needs. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.
13. Limit of responsibility
To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential harm arising from your use of Tideline. This does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law.
14. Ending your use
You may stop using Tideline and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. We will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it, and we will always leave Help now and the helpline numbers available.
15. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change starts. If you do not agree, you may stop using Tideline and delete your account.
16. Law and disputes
Arizona law governs these terms, and the courts of Arizona have jurisdiction. Before any formal step, please contact support. Most problems can be solved quickly.
